Press Freedom November 18, 2006

Dong Puno says:

When … Reporters Sans Frontieres (Reporters Without Borders) came out recently with its World Press Freedom Index, and ranked the country 142nd out of 168 countries, local media stalwarts who were used to referring to this country’s press as one of the freest in the world almost fell out of their seats.

Huh? What planet are they on?

Maybe it’s the open windowed, probinciano office location, but I’ve been horrified - at times viscerally so - at the dive press freedom in the Philippines has taken over the past five years. I certainly didn’t fall out of my chair.
