Blogging from Malaybalay City, Philippines

Richmonde Hotel Manila January 12, 2006

I’ve been using the Richmonde in Ortigas frequently ever since they first opened about ten year ago. They have no idea who I am.

There’s no wireless internet access here. I don’t know if that’s common in Manila or not - it’s certainly uncommonin in the U.S. now.

But here’s the kicker - they charge me $4/hour for (wired) internet access in the Business Center - using my computer! I do get a nice private office, printer, and scanner. But I just wanted net access. I could walk down to Starbucks, but it’s a pain.

So I’m sitting here using their $4 access point and blogging this.

The Richmonde should be giving away access. This drives customers away from, not to them. It’s such a small thing.
