Disintermediation December 13, 2005
We’re in an age of disintermediation, Dave Winer keeps observing. The value in bundles of information is going by the wayside. Aggregation can be customized by the seeker of that information. The friction involved in getting at information (and the middle-man) is being removed.
Jeff Jarvis observes that after AOL merged with Time/Warner ” they thought it would be run on cooperation … in a culture where everyone hates everyone else.”
Consulting companies can be a little like that - they do not thrive on internal cooperation, in spite of their best intentions. They are aggregators of information and experience but the delivery mechanisms are not all that efficient and clients trying to tap into that reservoir run into lots of friction.
Strategically useful Information needs to be free. It needs to out there and available for customized aggregation so that individuals who can best use it, can grab it when and where they need it and act on it. If you can make that happen, you will make a killing financially.
