More on Gaming Culture and Real Options May 2, 2005

A NYT excerpt regarding the Sleeper Curve from Steven Johnson’s upcoming book Everything Bad Is Good For You:

Many reality shows borrow a subtler device from gaming culture as well: the rules aren’t fully established at the outset. You learn as you play.

This is exactly why Real Options Theory and other so-called advanced, complicated business methods will be a piece of cake to the new generation of professionals. In Real Options, and other uncertainty-based decision frameworks, you explicitly accept that the rules arent’ fully established at the outset and then you create your strategy from there.
